I’m sorry , I see your post only today! I’m fine thanks and you?
I saw your link but I think it’s not our seed because the hilum is not really round shaped like Lotus, but thank you for your help.
Do you know that ISTA will do a workshop on purity in Cambridge on juin? Will you be there?
I hope to see you in Cambridge!

Kind regards,

Silvia

These seeds are a challenge to identify without typical features! I wonder if these seeds became deformed during development?

If they are 2-3 mm long, Alternanthera tenella in the Amaranthaceae can appear similar. There are not many images available, but this page has a small one: https://grupomipdam.blogspot.com/2018/11/alternanthera-tenella-colla.html

The surface also reminds me of Plantago lanceolata in Plantaginaceae and Senna obtusifolia in the Fabaceae. These seeds might be too large, and I’m not sure what deformed seeds would look like.

I hope this helps a bit, please let us know what you find! Jennifer

They are hard when pressed,
There’s no hilum present, may be more like an aril.

Thanks

Unfortunately I can’t see many ID features on these seeds, could you tell me please:

– Are they hard or soft when pressed?
– Is there a hilum present?

Thank you, Jennifer

Thank you for your reply.

We also thought it could be a Pisum, but we’re not sure. So for now, we’ll leave the seed as unknown. But thank you so much for watching!

Kind regards,

Annika

How are you doing?

We recently found a seed like this and we took it to a seed determination course, and they identified it as Lotus maritimus. Maybe this is the same seed? I have attached a link to the digital plant atlas.

I hope all is well with you and your lab. These seeds look like Vicia parviflora to me – 2 mm size, densely black mottled pattern, very short hilum, and a slightly protruding hilum and lens. I think the images are well done with all the identification features visible!

I hope this helps, Jennifer
