    Hello Everyone,

At our laboratory came this seed and we couldn’t find a correct identification.

Can you help me to identify it?

    Hello Eduard,

This seed reminds me of a caryopsis (fruit) of a grass species, could you give us more information:

    – the area of production
    – the crop it came from
    – the size of the seed

    Thank you! Jennifer

    Hello,

The area is in Colombia, it was founded in a Urochloa brizantha crop, the size is about 3 or 4 mm.

I think it’s a caryopse of poaceae but don’t know which one.

    Thanks for your help

    Hi Eduard,

I agree it is likely a grass caryopsis. My thought is pearl millet, Cenchrus americanus (syn: Pennisetum glaucum). The size and shape are similar, but I’m not sure if it is grown in Colombia. There should be a dark spot (the hilum) on one side of the narrow end if it is pearl millet.

    What do you think?

    Thank you, Jennifer
