Protocols for seed imaging and seed size measurement were developed and provided so that the data is collected in a scientific method and a similar fashion by all authors. The protocols will ensure that seed images and seed measurements are taken using the same method so that data in all fact sheets is comparable.
The Seed Imaging Protocol is to provide minimum requirements for the standardization of image taking and presentation in order to build a reference database. In addition, a standard method and a consistent format are required to present reliable and complete seed features for diagnostic analysis and for establishing a virtual seed image database.
The Seed Size Measurement Protocol is to provide a standard and scientific method for measuring seed size, the features that will be used for seed identification or morphological description.
In order that fact sheets are developed in a consistent manner, ISMA requires authors to use the following resources:
- Fact Sheet Template for ®Seed Identification Guide (SIG)
- Common Seed Shape Chart
- Common Seed Surface Feature Chart
- Common Seed Colour Description Chart
