Protocols for imaging and seed or fruit size measurement were developed and provided so that the data is collected in a scientific method and in a similar fashion by all authors. The protocols will ensure that images and measurements are taken using the same method so that data in all fact sheets is comparable.
The Imaging Protocol is to provide minimum requirements for the standardization of image taking and presentation in order to build a reference database. In addition, a standard method and a consistent format are required to present reliable and complete seed or fruit features for diagnostic analysis and for establishing a virtual image database.
The Size Measurement Protocol is to provide a standard and scientific method for measuring seed or fruit size, the features that will be used for identification or morphological description.
In order that fact sheets are developed in a consistent manner, ISMA requires authors to use the following resources:
- Fact Sheet Template for ®Seed Identification Guide (SIG)
- Common Shape Chart
- Common Surface Feature Chart
- Common Colour Description Chart
