Can someone help me identify this seed. See attachment. I found it in a lake or ruppia ball weathering out of an outcrop near a paleolake shoreline in New Mexico. I am not sure if it belongs to a terrestrial plant or aquatic plant?

It appears to be a Sesamum indicum seed, maybe someone can confirm or correct?

    I agree with Laura.

    Hello David,

Thank you for sharing these images! I also agree that it looks like a seed of sesame, Sesamum indicum. I found some good images in a paper by Qiu et al. (2012), Sesame Utilization in China: New Archaeobotanical Evidence from Xinjiang that may help to confirm?

    Best, Jennifer
