    Hello everybody,
a customer gave us a seed for identification but we can’t identify even the family. I think it’s a “naked” seed, like Gymosperm, and/or a tree seed. He tell us that it was find in USA, maybe in Oregon state, but he doesn’t remember…
It was very hard to cut it!

    Can anyone help me please?

    Thank you,

    Silvia

    Hello Silvia,

These seeds appear similar to the current ISTA Proficiency Test specimens. To avoid issues with PT participants that may view the forum, identification of these seeds have to be delayed.

I would be happy to help after the ISTA PT answer sheet is released online.

    Thank you, Jennifer

    Hello Jennifer,
I’m sorry, I understand the context, I really didn’t want to create an unconfortable situation.

    Thanks again,

    Hi,

The seed in question is a Tiger Nut, or Cyperus esculentus.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Blythe,
thank you for your post. It’s very interesting, it was not a seed but a tuber! This is very important to improve our identification skills, we really thought that it was a seed!

    Thank you very much.

    Best regards,
    Silvia
